Wild Pear Tree

The wild pear will make a fantastic complementary fruit tree to the native apple and cherry trees.

Like all our native fruit trees, the wild pear tree will produce a stunning white or pink blossom in early spring before bearing fruit in the summer, so you will see a profusion of bees give way to small birds. Being a wild tree, the pears are not like you buy in the supermarket, but smaller and rounder - in fact many people confuse wild pears with apples, though our native birds love both of them just the same! There is some debate as to whether the wild pear tree is truly native, but it certainly gave rise to the many pear cultivars we have today. The pear tree will normally take a distinctly elegant position in your garden, but responds easily to its environment, seeking the sun when it can. Why not grow a mini native orchard in your garden by intermixing with crab apple and cherry trees? You could also make an absolutely stunning mixed fruit hedge from all these trees - a treat for the birds and imagine the blossom in spring!

All our trees and shrubs are grown to be the perfect size for best establishment. For most species this can range from 20-60cm about the root plug. If you would like to discuss specific sizes, please contact us.

There is no real folklore associated with the wild pear tree as it has for so long been considered a tree of beauty and practicality. It was thought that the first pear tree originated in China and then spread to Europe, where humans started to cross-breed and produce pear cultivars from a very early stage.
