Crab Apple Tree

The crab apple tree is one of the most adaptable and beautiful of our hardy native trees - it is not just for an orchard.

In spring, the crab apple is covered with a delicate white-pink blossom which make many people confuse crab apple with the cherry blossom tree. From that eye-catching display come small, round apple fruits in the summer which are loved by so many of our native birds. The crab apples are best used in jams or sauces as they can be a bit bitter raw. The branches of crab apple trees can also be easily trained on a trellis to make a stunningly romantic blossom arbour or pergola - you will get masses of tiny white-pink flowers in the spring and luscious green leaves in the summer. Or perhaps you might like a mixed fruit hedge - native apple, pear and plum fruit trees all mixed in wonderful blossom, producing a feast for wildlife in the summer.

All our trees and shrubs are grown to be the perfect size for best establishment. For most species this can range from 20-60cm above the root plug. If you would like to discuss specific sizes, please contact us.

The Crab Apple Tree is often known as the Tree of Love and is often given at Valentine's Day and Marriage Ceremonies.
